A Bird Catching Game Where the Birds Aren’t Hurt

You carry a net, not a gun. Birds are caught, held up and released — and the whole skill of the game is knowing, in the half-second you have, which ones you are supposed to catch at all.

Free and instant in your browser. Play it.

The face rule

This is the core identification mechanic, and it is completely consistent so it can actually be learned:

✅ Faced birds — net them

A bird carrying a human face is a woke target. Every single faced bird is nettable. Netting one scores.

❌ Faceless birds — leave them

A bird with no human face is ordinary wildlife, a decoy. Netting one costs you points. No decoy ever wears a famous face, so it is never a guess.

The helper birds

Nine species fly with you rather than against you: eagle, hawk, falcon, osprey, owl, pelican, swan, crane and stork. They carry a cyan shield label so you can see them coming, they actively help you net your targets, and they cannot be harmed at all — anything thrown at them bounces off. Learning to read the shield at a glance is most of the difference between a beginner and an advanced run.

The protected park

Zone 4 is a State Park, and it is a no-hunting zone. There is no quota there and netting anything costs you. It is the level that makes the point that having a net does not mean you should be using it.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a bird game where you do not hurt the birds?

Yes. In Whack-A-Woke birds are caught in a net rather than shot, and protected and helper birds cannot be harmed at all - projectiles bounce off them.

How do you know which birds to catch?

Birds carrying a human face are the targets. Birds with no human face are ordinary wildlife decoys and netting them costs points.

Which birds are helpers?

Eagle, hawk, falcon, osprey, owl, pelican, swan, crane and stork. They carry a cyan shield label, help you net targets, and cannot be harmed.

What is the State Park zone?

Zone 4 is a protected no-hunting area with no quota. Netting wildlife there costs points instead of scoring them.

Is the bird catching game free?

Yes, and it runs in your browser with no download on phone, tablet or computer.
